Indonesia currently hosts 11,735 refugees, yet their situation remains uncertain due to the lack of long-term policies ensuring their rights. Many face legal vulnerabilities, including language barriers, limited access to justice, and a lack of awareness from legal actors regarding legal status, basic concepts, and the existence of refugees in Indonesia.
To bridge this gap, SUAKA became the first organization to establish a Community-Based Refugee Paralegal Network, empowering refugees with legal knowledge to advocate for their rights. Through training programs, over 40 refugee paralegals have been established as members of the network and now assist their communities, making a significant impact on legal empowerment. To highlight their struggles, achievements, and resilience, SUAKA has documented their inspiring stories, aiming to spark more empowerment and initiatives around the regions and jurisdictions.
